Definition – What is database?

Database is a structure record of data, usually referred to information stored in a computer system. The structure or the organizations of information in database are followed according to a database model. There are many models that database information is stored. The most common one would be the relational model. There are numerous others type of model, such as hierarchical model and the network model, which are more complicated than the rational model

Database system are used widely in organize system to sort things out in order. A computer database relies on software to organize the storage of data. All of these software shares a common name, which is database management system. These database management systems are sorted according to what database mode they support. The models tend to determine the query languages, which are computer languages used to make queries into databases and information systems that are available to access the database. Database management system deals with concerns like performance, concurrency, integrity and recovery from hardware failures.

A computer database is, as the name suggests, a collection of data stored within a computer. It is like an electronic file cabinet full of documents. What makes computer databases useful is the ease with which the data can be entered, stored and manipulated to the user’s will. Computer database can be in form of word processors. A Word Processor creates documents that can be typed, drawn and edit, paste other document on it and then you can finally save it. Excel can generate charts and tables, input of numbers are computed. This can also be saved and called database. Each data is unique. Unique data needs to be entered only one time. From then on it can be used to create lists, summaries, reports, letters, labels and many other things.

Computer programs generated databases and each database are a different designed and layout according to the program that uses the data. Before data can be entered into database, the database has to be designed A layout or a set of layout, in other words, templates, are generated. Within these layouts, data fields are found. There are many types of data field. It can be text type, number type, date type, time type, and media type. There are also calculations types or media types which are fields resulted from other data which can not be identified by any program used on the computer.

The benefit of using database

Computer users can store all kind of database including picture, movies and sounds. With the computer software, you can edit and manipulate the file according to the desire outcome. You could san the image into the database and then combine with other data to form, say a form for something, that can be easily look up by searching through ( since each data is unique ) which is only a click away. Database allow a very organized and structural sorting of files, following many methods like names, types of file, size of files, etc…

Area of impact – Database is a computer-related topic. Thus it belongs to the areas of impact of education and business and employment, where database technology is widely used. In schools and business organization, computers and information storage have become very vital to how they operate their system. With tonnes of information, database is needed to store, organize and sort for easy selection and time-saving when it comes to the file that need to be used.

1.1 Reliability
_ Database can be reliable since it is very systematic, using different model for different set up of data to ensure the quickest, most accurate search for one data among millions of others.
_ The reliability of data will depend on how much the user uses it so it doesn’t become outdated. Regular update of database is needed for a fresh storage of data.
_ Database clearing and filtering is important for reliability, as it removes the workload for the system, going through all the available data and drawing out onlye the one that is needed

_ Data protection is needed against hackers to prevent any confidential data to be revealed that can pose a thread (i.e – in business organization, financial status should not be revealed to avoid any possible thread or data stolen )
_ Database can be restricted to certain range of users within an organization, like a school or a company. These information will can only then be accessed by numbers of individual who are permitted with the mean of access, such as a pass code.
_ The more valuable the information, the tighter the security would have to be in order to protect it. Various means of data protection, such as lock, Anti-virus software or firewall are set up.

_ Data contains the intellectual property of the user because they have worked on it to produce an original piece of work, stored in form of data.
_ Numerous model of database allow different style and storing system. Each model are designed to be different style for different means of data storage, depending on what purpose it serves.
_ Software usage and databases might deal with copy right issue, such as the copytright for originality of a product.

_ With database, individual can share files across computers to. This helps a lot with communication and sharing ideas
_ Database requires the appropriate software and computer to access electronically. This limit users without the privileges. The cost of buying computer, purchasing software can be very expensive
